Pop Punk Folk Art Made From Recycled Cardboard

Pasha Bumazhniy adorns otherwise useless discarded cardboard with otherworldly, oddball creatures – turning trash into art.

The cast of animals, monsters, shapes and squiggles, called ‘PL Friends’, were created by Russian painter and illustrator Pasha Bumazhniy. She describes the aesthetic of the series as ‘poppunk art’ and says that the ‘main idea is to give second chance to garbage’.

Because it is ‘not so awesome to not spend money on canvases’, Pasha recycles cardboard from factories and packaging to use in her work. The rough edges and uneven textures of the material compliment the playful, DIY sensibility of her 30 painted creations.
